As of December, 13 new conditions will be added to the Social Security Disability Insurance program’s Compassionate Allowances list. The list currently includes 100 conditions which are considered to clearly meet guidelines for receiving disability insurance.
The Compassionate Allowances program was created for people with serious conditions as a way to speed up the approval process. Only about 5 percent of Social Security Disability Insurance claims meet the Compassionate Allowances program’s criteria.
The conditions being added to the list are: Pulmonary Kaposi Sarcoma, Angelman Syndrome, Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma, Lewy Body Dementia, ALS/Parkinsonism Dementia Complex, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Primary Effusion Lymphoma, Multiple System Atrophy, Corticobasal Degeneration, Lowe Syndrome, Malignant Multiple Sclerosis, Paraneoplastic Phemphigus, and Multicentric Castleman Disease.
