Early this morning, 2 people were injured in a pedestrian accident in Colorado Springs, according to the city’s police department. The accident occurred at the 1800 block of Dominion Way, shortly before 1:30 a.m.
3 people were walking westbound on the sidewalk along Dominion Way, when a 23-year old driver, also traveling westbound, ran off the road. The vehicle veered off of the right side of the road and onto the sidewalk, hitting 2 of the pedestrians.
The driver continued driving, striking a light post, until he realized his car had caught fire. Police arrived at the scene of the accident and arrested the 23-year old. Officers reported that alcohol played a role in the accident.
One of the pedestrians, a 45-year old man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including a head injury. The other person who was hit in the accident suffered minor injuries to their arm.
