Blending many of the Colorado’s most intriguing sites, Los Caminos Antiguos will take you from Conejos through San Luis and Fort Garland. Open only between Memorial Day and Labor Day due to its high altitude, Independence Pass reaches a peak of 12,095 feet. Evergreens and imposing mountains loom over a lush valley below. Along this route you’ll encounter the ski towns of Aspen and Snowmass as well as the world’s largest improved hot spring in Glenwood Springs.
Situated at 10,200 feet, the country’s highest incorporated town of Leadville is still dwarfed by Mount Massive and Mount Elbert, the two tallest peaks in Colorado.
