The Las Animas County jury favored plaintiff Rhett Ridolfi, who sued helmet maker Riddell and his coaches over brain injuries from a high school football practice in 2008, awarding him $11.5 million in damages on Saturday, April 13
The jury ordered Riddell to pay $3.1 million of the damages, but Ridolfi’s lawyer Frank Azar said the following day that he plans to work on getting a judge to modify the verdict, forcing Riddell to pay all of the $11.5 million.
Ridolfi claimed that he is now suffering from severe brain damage and paralysis on the left side of his head after incurring a concussion from his high school football practice in Trinidad High School.
Three of the five coaches were able to settle with Ridolfi’s family, while the other two are still being tried.
