Corrections officer admits to drinking before car accident

A 38-year old corrections officer admitted to drinking and taking painkillers before being involved in an accident this past Saturday morning.  The accident occurred in Aurora and left a family of three injured.

The Department of Corrections employee works at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility.  The officer was driving his personal vehicle when other motorists witnessed him swerving on East Smoky Hill Road near South Riviera.

Shortly after witnesses called the police, the accident occurred.  Aurora Police Department officials investigating the accident believe the corrections officer was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

Police say that if blood tests show the driver had a blood alcohol content of more than .05 percent he will be charged with felony vehicular assault.
