Eggs recalled in Colorado and 33 other states

Earlier this month, hard-cooked eggs were recalled in Colorado and 33 other states. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, more than one million eggs, or 15,000 pails of eggs, were recalled by Minnesota-based Michael Foods. The eggs were packaged in pails of brine.

The recall was issued after investigators outside of the company found that some of the eggs Michael Foods produced contained listeria bacteria. Michael Foods has not received any complaints from consumers about becoming ill with listeriosis. The company also says that they have taken the necessary steps to prevent the contamination from happening again.

Last year, around 30 people died after becoming infected with listerosis from consuming contaminated cantaloupes produced at Jensen Farms. The disease is most likely to affect people with compromised immune systems, infants, and the elderly.

The recalled eggs were sold under the name brands Glenview Farms, GFS, Columbia Valley Farms, Silverbrook, Papetti’s, and Wholesome Farms. Codes on the packages will have the number “1” first and the letter “W” at the end, if they are included in the recall.
