The family of a 15-year old boy who was killed after an evening of drinking Four Lokos has filed suit against the drink’s maker, Phusion Projects. Four Loko products have often been criticized for combining high amounts of caffeine and alcohol. The combination desensitizes consumers to the affects of alcohol.
The wrongful death lawsuit says the company was “careless and negligent” for creating such a dangerous beverage and marketing it towards young audiences. The 15-year old was able to purchase two Four Lokos at a convenience store in the fall of 2010. He drank the caffeinated, alcoholic beverages at a concert and began acting “erratic and agitated.”
The boy’s mother was called by concert venue officials to pick him up. On their way home, the teen got out of the car and took off running. The 15-year old ran into a busy highway and was struck by a car. The boy passed away the next day.
