There’s no doubt that Colorado is one of the most beautiful states to live in. Majestic Rocky Mountain views, wide open plains, and year round activities to enjoy make it a popular tourist destination for travelers around the world. But what about residents? What is it like to live in Colorado? How happy are Coloradans?
According to a new study conducted by MagnifyMoney, Colorado is, in fact, one of the happiest states to live in. The study itself was inspired by Oxford Economics. Researchers used a variety of factors to determine the “happiness level” of each of the 50 states. They discovered that sleep was the largest factor that contributed to well-being in residents, followed by health, lifestyle, and economic factors.
How did Colorado rank? Overall, Colorado ranked 3rd on the list of the happiest states in the country, behind only Minnesota and South Dakota. It ranked 2nd in health, 4th in lifestyle and 13th in Economic Stability. In general, midwestern states ranked better in overall happiness, when compared to the east coast or the south.
According to researchers, sleep, health, lifestyle and prosperity all add up to equal happiness. When you’re thriving in your career and in your relationships, and you are healthy and active, you are more likely to be happier. Happy residents make for happier and healthier communities and this can have long-lasting benefits across the state.

Unfortunately, not everyone is happy in Colorado. Colorado has one of the worst rates of suicide and that number continues to climb, with 19.4 suicides for 100,000 residents, according to data from the Colorado Health Foundation. Colorado also ranks number 2 in the nation for road rage fatalities and is the 18th worst state for car accidents.
