Supermax warden blamed in wrongful death suit

The warden of a super-maximum security prison is being blamed for the death of inmate Jose Martin Vega. The prisoner committed suicide on May 1, 2010.

The suit claims that the warden failed to provide the mental health treatment Vega needed. The Federal Bureau of Prisons’ policies bars prisoners with serious mental conditions from being kept in Supermax facilities according.

The wrongful death suit against the prison was filed last Tuesday in U.S. District Court by Vega’s brother. It claims that Vega was deprived of psychiatric medications that he needed while in the prison.

A wrongful death is always tragic, no matter the circumstances around it. Our condolences go out to the family of Jose Martin Vega.
