Michael Hastings killed in car accident

According to BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith, journalist Michael Hastings was killed in a car crash on Tuesday, June 18, in Los Angeles. Hastings was a writer for the news site BuzzFeed and a contributing editor for Rolling Stone.

Smith’s statement revealed no other details about Hastings’ death; however, according to police reports, a victim of a car crash who was burned so badly that he was unrecognizable was found in Hollywood. The car had slammed into a tree, where is was later found by police, and had caught on fire. Investigators stated they needed time to identify the victim, although it is believed to be Hastings.

Hastings is most known for his Rolling Stone article about former U.S. Military Chief in Afghanistan Stanley McChrystal that led to his eventual resignation.
