We all want to drive the safest car. Yet, sometimes we compromise safety to obtain a vehicle we can afford or one we like the look of. Do these compromises mean that we are at more risk for being injured or killed in a car accident? Smartphones: Increasing Accidents and Raising Rates

Smartphones may make our lives easier – but they are also making them more dangerous. A new survey by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company found that smartphones may be responsible for increasing accidents and raising rates. Their survey discovered that 36% of all people admitted to texting behind the wheel and 29% admitted to surfing the web while driving. This was an alarming increase from previous years’ surveys. There are also more smartphone users taking part in these surveys than ever before. In 2011, just 52% of drivers surveyed owned a smartphone. In 2015, that number had increased to 88%.

Finding a repair shop after an accident can be difficult. The insurance company may “recommend” a shop to you, and that shop could be a good choice, or a not-so-good choice. Many insurance companies have contracts with auto body shops, which, on the face of it, does not sound all that bad.

Over the last decade, the incidence of traffic fatalities in which at least one driver tested positive for drugs has almost doubled.

With the number of U.S. traffic fatalities on the rise in general, federal data shows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) has also detected a steady succession of drivers who are testing positive for illicit drugs and prescription medications.
