Weld County crash kills tow truck driver and injures police officer

A 47-year-old Aurora tow truck operator died in a three-vehicular crash on Highway 85 in southern Weld County, Colorado Saturday, August 24. The accident also wounded  a Colorado State Patrol police officer.

C&J Auto Service tow truck operator Martin Braden was sweeping debris in the southbound lane of Highway 85 when a Ford F-250 heading south and driven by 61-year-old Dana Beales crashed into a parked police cruiser that was behind Braden’s service truck. The crash sent the cruiser down the embankment, causing injuries to Trooper Scott Rendfrey, before slamming into Braden.

According to the state patrol’s official statement, charges against Beales will not be filed until after the investigation.
