This month, a man from Kansas City, Missouri filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jensen Farms. According to the lawsuit, the man’s 92-year old father died as a result of eating cantaloupe that was contaminated at the farm in Holly, Colorado.
The 92-year old initially filed the lawsuit when he became sick with listeriosis from the fruit. However, after his death, the injury case was changed to a wrongful death suit. The lawsuit was filed in federal court, and includes the fruit’s distributor, Frontera Produce, as a defendant.
146 people across the country contracted listeriosis after consuming cantaloupe from Jensen Farms last year. At least 31 people died from the illness. The 92-year old was in the hospital for 5-weeks with listeriosis linked to cantaloupe from Jensen Farms before his passing.
